Marine & Shipping Law Unit

Queensland has its own specialist academic research centre in maritime law, the Marine & Shipping Law Unit (MASLU), based at the TC Beirne School of Law, The University of Queensland.
MASLU’s members include full time academics and Adjunct Professors; together they offer a wealth of practical and theoretical experience in international maritime law. MASLU works closely with the Queensland branch of MLAANZ, and sponsors conferences and seminars on current and emerging maritime issues. MASLU provides postgraduate level maritime law courses within the School’s Master of Laws and Master of Applied Law programs. Courses include Admiralty Law, Carriage of Goods by Sea, Maritime Law, Marine Insurance Law, Marine Environmental Law and International Law of the Sea. These subjects are also offered to experienced non-lawyers wishing to expand their maritime legal knowledge through the TC Beirne School of Law Professional Legal Course Series, which may be studied on a non-award or Continuing Professional Development basis.
The current Director of MASLU is Nick Gaskell, Professor of Maritime and Commercial Law at the TC Beirne School of Law.
